VG-99 Workshop 01: Introduction to the VG-99
The VG-99 is hands-down the most powerful guitar processor ever made, capable of transforming your instrument with sounds both familiar and unreal. This booklet introduces you to the VG-99’s creative possibilities and discusses some of the technologies that are part of it.
VG-99 Workshop 02: Pickup Settings
This booklet gives you the lowdown on using a divided pickup with the VG-99, including the Roland GK-3 and third-party piezo-type systems. Using your guitar’s normal pickups is covered as well.
VG-99 Workshop 03: On-the-Gig Sound Settings
The VG-99 makes it easy to tweak its overall sound for different performing environments without changing the sounds stored in the individual patches. This booklet shows you how.
VG-99 Workshop 04: Using the Built-in Tuner
When working with the VG-99, you’ll find the built-in chromatic tuner to be one of its most often-used features. This booklet discusses how to use the tuner and control it with external switches.
VG-99 Workshop 05: Working with Patches
A VG-99 patch stores all the parameter settings that make up a particular sound. In this booklet, we show you how to select, save, and manage your patches in the VG-99.

Roland VG99
The Roland VG-99 is a guitar modeling effects processor and guitar to MIDI converter.
With three powerful processors and expressive performance controls such as Ribbon Controller and D BEAM, the VG-99 leads the way in guitar-modeling and performance technology for studio recording and live use.
The Roland VG-99 Features:Dual modeling engines allow guitar and amp models to be dynamically switched, layered and combined. New COSM electric, acoustic and even bass guitar models, and new synth waves such as the famous GR-300 Guitar to MIDI converter for direct connection to keyboards, sound modules, soft synths, computers, and other MID compatible devices.
In contrast to the VG8 and VG88 Roland models that incorporated foot pedals, the VG99 is designed to be used with an accompanying foot pedal, the Roland FC-300.
The FC-300 foot pedal allows to way communication with the VG-99 so that patch names can be displayed on the pedal as you switch through patches.
Being table rather than floor mounted makes editing patches on the VG-99 easier than on the VG-8 and VG-88. Roland also supply editing software for Mac and PC that makes the editing process even easier - the software looks a little like Native Instruments' Guitar Rig software and allows you to select guitar model, amp model, pickups and effects through the editing screen.
The back panel houses the usual inputs and outputs you would expect including an expression-pedal input, a standard guitar-level input and a USB port, which can be used to transmit and receive both audio and MIDI data together with a direct digital output.
On this blog I'll post some of my favorite Roland VG-99 patches and tutorials for getting the best out of your VG-99 guitar system.
